This is “Azuma bashi Bridge”.
This is the last bridge built on the Sumida River in the Edo period (1603-1868), and was built at the expense of private from the townspeople's proposal in 1774.
It was called Okawa Bridge at the time, but it was officially renamed into Azuma Bridge after the rebuilding of the bridge in 1876, and the current bridge was completed in 1931.
On the left side, there is a bronze statue in front of the Sumida Ward Office for rememberanse the feat of Mr.Katsu Kaisyu.
Azuma Bridge's red color depicts ward off evil spirits.
「吾妻橋（あづまばし）」です。
江戸時代隅田川に架けられた最後の橋で、1774年、安永3年に町の繁栄のため、町人（ちょうにん）たちの申し出により自身の費用で架けられました。
当時は大川橋と呼ばれていましたが、1876年、明治9年の橋の建て替えにより正式に吾妻橋という名前に代わり、現在の橋は、1931年、昭和6年に完成しました。左手に見えます墨田区役所の前には、勝海舟の偉業を称え、銅像が建てられています。
吾妻橋の赤色は、魔除けを表しています。
