Sumida River Cruise, Kuramae bash 蔵前橋

This is “Kuramae bashi”. Literary meaning is “Rice warehouse bridge”.

Completed in 1927. This place was named because there were rice warehouses of Edo central government in this area during the Edo period (1603-1868).

This bridge’s yellow color depicts an ear of rice.

For Japanese people, yellow associated with rice, because in the Edo era SAMURAI’s salary was payed by rice, instead with money. So that still nowadays rice is precious as if gold.

「蔵前橋（くらまえばし）」です。1927年、昭和2年に完成しました。

蔵前の地名は、江戸時代、幕府の米倉がこの辺りにあったことから名付けられました。

日本人は、黄色から稲穂を連想します。

江戸時代にお侍さんのお給料は、お金ではなくお米で支払われていたからです。

今だに、お米は黄金のように大切なものと思われています。
