This is “Shin Ohashi”. Literary meaning is “New Big bridge”. In the Edo period, it was named “Shin Ohashi” because it was built after "Ryogoku Bashi" bridge called “Ohashi” at that time. It is said that Mr.Tokugawa Tsunayoshi of the 5th general in Edo government (1646-1709), his mother named Keishoin asked to build to secure transportation for Edo citizens.
When the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, it was called the “Rescure Bridge” because this bridge was the only one which wasn't burned down in the deserster and saved many people who evacuated.

Let's enjoy Sumida River cruise with me. This video is on the way back to Asakusa. 2020.Feb.24.2:55pm.
