It is amazing to know how to use HORO.
I recommend to see this YouTube video especially when 6 minutes 26 seconds.
The MC of this video actually try how efficient of this equipment in the battle.
Recently one licensed tourist guide posted a comment on SNS,
“When I guided in Osaka castle, my customer tourist asked me what is the red balloon behind Samurai figure doll?”
I can’t answer that question correctly, if somebody knows about it?”
I reminded when I went to see the movie of “the Battle of Sekigahara” in Roppongi Hills, I saw it in the battle scene.

Various brightly colored of Samurai Hoods such as red, blue and white stripe, yellow, are waving on the back of SAMURAI worriers riding on horses is interesting :D
I thought it is for distinguish warriors with enemy or own group, but it was for various purposes.
First time I saw this strange shaped thing was the statue of Maeda Toshiie at Oyama Shrine, when I had been to Kanazawa while waiting the announcement of the 1st stage test for tourist guide.
Because it is made of bronze, it looked like present bag for Santa Clause and I wonder why SAMURAI carried it on his back.
I remember beside this statue, there is a explanation panel.

以下のYouTube動画で、母衣の使い方を紹介していて、ものすごく良い映像だと思います。
特に６分２８秒目から、実際に母衣を身に付けて戦場で使っていた様子を再現しています。
映画「関ヶ原」を六本木ヒルズで見たときに、母衣が合戦シーンで出てきました。
色が赤、青いシマシマ、黄色の鮮やかな母衣が、お侍さんの背中ではためいているのは面白いなぁと思います。
以下リンクYoutube動画の映画予告編で、２分43秒あたりから母衣を見ることができます。
敵と味方を区別する目印かと思っていましたが、戦闘での防具の役割があったんですね。
ちなみに、この映画は六本木ヒルズでは英語字幕付きで上映されていて、興味があったので観に行きました。
機会があったら是非、とオススメの映画です :D
私が初めて母衣を見たのは、ガイドの勉強中に旅行した金沢の雄山神社・前田利家公像です。
銅像だったため、「何故、お侍さんが背中にサンタクロースのプレゼント袋を背負っているのだろう？」と不思議でした。
その時に、母衣の説明書きがありました。
